Tomorrow is the first day of March and wow what a winter it has been for wildlife here at The Stable at Mullion Barn.
As well as the usual Muntjac Deer roaming the gardens we have had so many wild birds and lots of birds of prey sightings too: Our Resident Sparrowhawk Our resident Sparrowhawk is roosting in the eaves at the northern end of Mullion Barn currently, we have spotted it a couple of times settling in at dusk (and we have certainly seen plenty of evidence of it's presence beneath it's roosting ledge!). No photographic evidence yet, it's way too fast! The Local Kestrel Residents from the village and our adjacent village have had lots of sightings of the local Kestrel in this photo which was taken whilst it happily surveyed its territory at Beyton Church, just down the road fro The Stable. Our Three Red Kites We have had three Red Kites circling over The Stable and our neighbours properties over the past few weeks - this is a great photo of one of them - quite a sight to see as you forget how large they are! They have increased in numbers in so many areas of the UK recently but it's the first time in a while that we have seen them here, so that's wonderful to see. Buzzard Sightings Over the early and mid winter months we have been blessed with a number of sightings of a Buzzard that on first sight could be mistaken for a Red Kite, but is definitely a Buzzard, and seems to like flying over the local Green and between our village and the next. We haven't seen it for a couple of months until this morning when we spotted it hunting over our neighbours garden! So don't forget to bring your binoculars for your next visit to The Stable.. and please always let us know if you've spotted something interesting! Thank you to one of our locals Steve Biggs who took these photos; you can see more here on his Facebook page.
